How I Got My First Digital Marketing Internship

My name is Vinutha B and my journey to digital marketing was not so straightforward at all. With a formal education in B.Sc. CBZ (Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology), no one—including myself—would have expected me to step into the ever-evolving field of digital marketing. Yet, sometimes the most rewarding journeys are the ones that go against our expectations.

From Science Graduate to Digital Explorer

Once I received my degree in science, I got motivated through the analytical nature and disciplined thought processes which I learnt during studies. I appreciated everything that I was taught in the field of science. And I started wondering about those skills that may be used in new and new rapidly developing fields beyond the conventional laboratory environment–particularly the booming world of online marketing.

I began exploring alternative career paths and quickly realized the vastness of opportunities on the internet. The online world captured my attention due to its dynamic and boundless learning opportunities. By doing research and talks, I came across digital marketing, especially SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and web design. The concept was captivating—what makes a website appear in the top spot on Google? How can businesses reach their target customers online more effectively than ever before? These questions increased my curiosity and drew me in.

Initially, the transition appeared as being weird to most of the people around me. How does a science major make a sharp turn to a completely different career? Family and friends were confused and to be really honest I was confused too. However, not everything is always planned or plotted perfectly, after all, the most fun you can ever get is taking a chance and trusting your curiosity as opposed to being able to adhere to that same script.

Choosing the Right Course to Begin

After recognizing my genuine interest, I decided to enroll in a digital marketing course at Frontlines edutech. Getting professionally trained was my first step. The course covered SEO, social media management, website design, Google and Meta Ads, content creation, and more. Each module helped me understand how integral digital marketing is to modern businesses.

Yet, I quickly realized that classroom learning was just the starting point. To truly excel, I needed real-world skills. So, I began practicing what I learned by building demo projects, trying out tools like Google Analytics, and staying updated with free resources on YouTube and marketing blogs.

First Experience: My Digital Marketing Internship

Once I felt confident in my foundational skills, I applied for internships and was fortunate to secure a work-from-home digital marketing internship at Techpath Research and Development PVT. This opportunity became a launching pad for my career, offering me hands-on exposure that no textbook could provide.

Here’s what my internship journey looked like:

  • SEO Work: I had been working on various blog posts and webpages, doing keyword and meta description work. It was a success and one of the prime achievements in my life to rank the page of a client (globaleventstravels.com) which made me discover the concept of keyword competition, backlink strategies and the significance of performance tracking.

  • Paid Advertising: I got educated in helping out with Google Ads campaigns. In addition, I assisted in Meta Ad business operations in both Instagram and Facebook.

  • Content Creation: I also had the opportunity to write excellent blog posts and trek related materials on globaleventstravels.com and also course related blogs for Techpath. To create traffic and engagement I refined my skills in storytelling, SEO and research writing.

  • Strategic Planning: I was involved in the quarterly marketing strategies of Techpath and this played a pivotal role in shaping my critical approach to long-term growth, actions prioritization, and realistic digital objectives.

  • Social Media Management: I managed to ensure that more than 30 updates have been placed on various platforms through post scheduling, analytics, and responding to the post reactions. Techpath also provided Python and digital marketing courses, which is why I became able to adjust the material to various communities.

  • Social Account Creation: I created and set up professional social media accounts for Brahmansewakdal, a client aiming to reach a wider community.

  • Web Content Writing: I developed complete content for a client website—Learn4Trading—which required me to communicate complex ideas simply and clearly.

  • Teaching: Passionate about sharing knowledge, I started instructing digital marketing basics to students who enrolled in Techpath’s digital marketing course. Teaching not only let me give back but reinforced my own learning.

Overcoming Doubts: Science to Digital Marketing

Is it weird-having a B.Sc. CBZ background and then being suddenly shift into digital marketing? Initially, yes. The question was whether my scientific qualifications would ever be appropriate in my new environment. However, as I advanced, I realized that analytical attitude and problem solving skills I acquired in the course of studying science can easily be applied to marketing analytics, strategic development of campaigns, and systematic content writing.

Times are ever changing; we need to keep everything changing and so do the opportunities. My experience shows that your college major is not your permanent tag. Rather, it should be the launching pad in which you can start in other new fields and redefine yourself.

Building My Brand: “Digitallyvin”

After my internship, I wanted to continue learning and creating, so I started my own blog—“Digitallyvin”. Sharing what I learned helped me process information deeply and gave me the chance to provide value to others, especially beginners. Blogging required me to master WordPress, content marketing, and community engagement.

More than 1.5-year of experience in digital marketing made my work experience a combination of constant learning, practice, teamwork, and creative evolution. My goal is to continue to learn, as digital marketing does not stop and continue to explain concepts in the simplest possible way so that other people especially those who are just starting in the field can gain knowledge through my experience.
